昨今、ホテルやショッピングセンターでは、レイメイキング、リボンレイ、ハワイアンパッチワークなどの講習会が盛んになって参りました。ここでは、別のお楽しみ方をご紹介します。
旅から家に帰って手作りで、旅行の余韻を楽しみ、深め、持続できたら、さらに嬉しいこと！
お菓子作りを楽しむ方へ..
 アラモアナショッピングセンター内の"コンプリートキッチン"や"ウイリアム・ソノマ"という台所用品のお店を覗いてみては！ご家庭での手作りお菓子に、古きよき時代のアメリカに思いをはせ、季節感が目にも楽しいお菓子の型が、シーズンになると出揃います。クリスマスには、周囲モミの木の丸いケーキ型、しっかり目に焼いたケーキを型から外し、冷ましてから粉砂糖を振ると、ツリーに雪が積もったよう。季節によってヴァレンタイン、イースター、ハロウイーン、感謝祭などそれぞれに、わくわくするような、楽しい型が並びます。手作りの周りには幸せ・喜び・感謝の笑顔が集まります。お菓子の型を通して、アメリカの風物詩が身近になり、興味も広がります。
手芸好きの方へ・・・
ホカイムキ地区の１０th ave.１１４４番地にあるKaimuki Dry Goodsは、手芸好きな方には時間が経つのを忘れるほど、豊富な生地・材料が揃っている、楽しいお店です。例えばアメリカンパッチワーク、デザインの本もありますので、その場で作りたいものが決まれば、イメージを膨らませて、生地も選びたい放題です。日本では浮かばないような色合い、組み合わせのヒントは、ここそこに→滞在中に出会ったホテルの装飾、お部屋のファブリック、印象に残った景色、レストランの色使い、お店のディスプレイなどからヒントを得て、ピンときた色調を基本に、イメージを膨らませ、作品に思い出を込めます。クリスマス前には、沢山のクリスマス柄の生地や、簡単に大小・楽しいオーナメントが作れる、切り込み線、縫い目線がプリント済みの生地も出ます。
ワイキキからはちょっと離れた所ですが、このカイムキ地区は昔ながらのハワイを彷彿とさせる商業の歴史が詰まった町、今はお洒落なカフェが次々とオープンしています。私は、この生地やさんの帰りに、"カフェ・ミロ"というレストランによって、美味しい夕食を頂いて帰ります。
旅行中に見つけたお気に入りのケーキ型や布やリボンで手作りの演出をし、家族やお友達と共有してみるのも楽しいものです。お試しください。

Things to do in Honolulu・・・・・・cooking, making arts and crafts
One of the most popular activities among tourists in Honolulu these days is taking lessons in fresh flower lei making, ribbon lei making and quilt making. Hotels and shopping malls offer the visitors the opportunities to experience making traditional arts and crafts of Hawaii. Taking home your creations and making them again at home will make the memory of your travel more unforgettable.
For anyone who loves cooking
I recommend you to visit Complete Kitchen and William Sonoma, both of which are located in the Ala Moana Shopping Center. Those shops offer huge selections of home baking items. In particular holiday season comes close, the shops sell a variety of decoratively shaped cookie cutters and cake pans. I bought a round shaped cake pan with Christmas tree patterns, and baked Christmas cake at home. I baked cake fully, cooled it completely, and gently frosted the cake with powder sugar. The cake looked like a Christmas tree covered with snow. The designs of cookie cutters and cake pans vary from season to season depending on the festive occasions such as Valentine's day, Easter, Halloween, and Thanks- giving Day. Home made sweets spread holiday cheer and fill our hearts with a lot of happiness, joy and gratitude. Also, lovely shaped cookie cutters and cake pans make me think about the good old days of America. I have become increasingly interested in the American cultures.
For anyone who loves handicrafts
 Anyone who loves handicrafts will definitely love Kaimuki Dry Goods, located at 1144, 10th Avenue, Kaimuki District. The store is filled with a wide variety of high quality fabrics and supplies. Seeing those beautiful fabrics will make the time pass so quickly. The store also sells books on American patchwork and quilting. If you would like to make a patchwork, check those books to get new ideas, and choose the fabrics that suit your taste.
You can find unique color combinations and quit patterns everywhere in the city of Honolulu. Hotel lobbies, hotel room furniture, table settings in restaurants, beautifully displayed showcases, or impressive scenes will inspire your creativity. Holiday season approaches, the shop offers lots of fabrics with Christmas designs and easy-to-make Christmas ornament kits varying in size. Some fabrics are sold with the shapes of the ornaments and the sewing lines already traced on their wrong sides.
Kaimuki is an old town where commerce flourished in the past. The district is at some distance from downtown Honolulu, but it has become a trendy spot with the opening of many new restaurants and cafes. I usually have nice dinner at Café Milo on the way back to my hotel from Kaimuki Dry Goods.
If you would like to make your trip more enjoyable, I recommend you to get unique home cooking items, fabrics and ribbons at your destinations, and take them home to create nice small gifts for your friends and family members.
